Surah At-Taqwir: The Folding Up

Revealed at Makkah

With the name of Allah, most Gracious, most Rewarding

81:1

WHEN the sun is folded up,

81:2

And when the stars are dust-covered,

81:3

and when the mountains are made to pass away,

81:4

and when the ten-month-gravid camels are forsaken;

81:5

and when the wild beasts are gathered together,

81:6

and when the seas are made to swell,

81:7

and when the souls are united,

81:8

and when the girl-child buried alive is questioned:

81:9

“For what sin she was killed?”

81:10

And when the sheets are spread open;

81:11

and when the heaven is uncovered,

81:12

and when hell-Fire is kindled up;

81:13

and when the Garden is brought near,—

81:14

soul will know what it has brought forward.

81:15

Therefore no, I call to witness the planets,

81:16

moving on, disappearing.

81:17

And the night when it departs,

81:18

and the dawn when it brightens;

81:19

verily this is indeed the word of a noble Rasul—

81:20

the possessor of strength, established in presence of the Master of the Throne,—
