Surah Al-i-'Imran: Imran's Family

Revealed at Madinah

With the name of Allah, most Gracious, most Rewarding

3:1

ALIF, Lam, Mim.

3:2
Allah! there is no deity but He, the ever-Living, the self-Subsisting.

3:3
He has revealed upon you this Scripture with the Truth, confirming that which was before it; and He revealed the Tawrat and the Injil, in the past as a guidance to mankind, and He has revealed the Discrimination. Surely those who disbelieve in the Messages of Allah, for them is a terrible punishment. And Allah is Exalted in Might, Possessor of power of retribution.

3:4
Surely as to Allah, nothing is hidden from him in the earth, nor in the heaven.

3:5
He it is Who fashions you in the wombs as He pleases. There is no deity but Him,— the Exalted in Might, the most Wise.

3:6
He it is Who has revealed to you the Scripture, whereof some Ayats are Decisive— these are the Mother of the Scripture, and others are allegorical. Then as to those in whose hearts there is perversity, they in fact follow the allegorical part of it seeking trouble and seeking to give it interpretations. But no one knows the interpretation of it except Allah. And the steadfast in knowledge would say: “We believe in it,— the whole is from the presence of our Rabb.” And no one minds except those possessed of understanding.

3:7
“Our Rabb! do not cause our hearts to deviate after You have guided us; and grant us mercy from Your Presence. Truly You, only You are the most liberal Giver.

3:8
“Our Rabb! You are invariably going to gather all mankind towards a Day in which there is no doubt.” Allah certainly never breaks tryst.

3:9
As to those who disbelieve, surely neither their wealth nor their children will avail them anything against Allah. And these are themselves the fuel of the Fire—

3:10
like the striving of the people of Fir‘awn, and those before them. They belied Our Messages, so Allah caught hold of them for their faults. And Allah is Severe in requiting.

3:11
Say to those who disbelieved: “You will soon be vanquished, and you will be driven towards the Gehenna; and evil is the cradling!”

3:12
Surely you have had a Sign in the two hosts that met together: one party fighting in the way of Allah, and the other— disbelievers, whom they saw twice as themselves with the sight of eyes. And Allah strengthens with His help whom He pleases. Truly in this there is a lesson for the possessors of sight.

3:13
Fair appears to mankind the love of the companionship from women and children, and hoarded treasures of gold and silver, and well-bred horses and cattle, and the fields;— these are of use for the life of this world. And Allah— with Him is the best retreat.

3:14
Say: “Shall I inform you of something better than these? For those who revere, there are with their Rabb Gardens beneath which flow the rivers, they abide in it, and pure companions and satisfaction from Allah. And Allah is Seer of devotees:

3:15
“those who say: 'Our Rabb! we have certainly believed; therefore forgive us of our sins, and save us from the punishment of the Fire.'

3:16
“The persevering, and the truthful, and the devout, and the charitable, and the seekers of protection at daybreak.”

3:17
Allah bears witness that there is certainly no deity but He, and the malaks and those possessed of knowledge, the upright in justice. There is no god but Him, the Exalted in Might, the most Wise.

3:18
Decidedly the religion with Allah is Islam. And those who were given the scripture do not differ except after what came to them of the knowledge out of jealousy among themselves. And whoever disbelieves in the Messages of Allah, then Allah is indeed Quick at reckoning.

3:19
But if they dispute with you say then: “I submit my countenance to Allah, and whoever follows me.” And say to those who have been given the scripture and to the unlettered: “Do you submit yourselves?” Then if they submit, they are then certainly guided; but if they turn back, then upon you is only the delivery. And Allah is Watchful over bondsmen.

3:20
Surely those who disbelieve in the Messages of Allah, and would slay the nabis without just cause, and slay such of mankind as enjoin justice,— then give them the tidings of a painful punishment.
