Surah Al-Inshiqaq: The Rending Asunder

Revealed at Makkah

With the name of Allah, most Gracious, most Rewarding

84:1
WHEN the sky is rent asunder,

84:2
and it listens to its Rabb, and it is incumbent—

84:3
and when the earth is stretched out,

84:4
and casts forth what is in it, and becomes empty,

84:5
and it listens to its Rabb,— and it is incumbent.

84:6
O you man! surely you have to labor towards your Rabb laboriously, then you will meet Him.

84:7
Then as to him who is given his Book in his right hand,

84:8
then he will soon be accounted for with an easy accounting;

84:9
then he will return to his family joyfully.

84:10
But as to him who is given his Book behind his back,

84:11
then he will soon call for destruction,

84:12
and enter the burning Fire.

84:13
Surely he used to be joyful among his family

84:14
He indeed deemed that he would never return.

84:15
Yea! surely his Rabb is ever Seer of him.

84:16
Then no! I call to witness the evening twilight,—

84:17
and the night and what it drives on,

84:18
and the moon when she grows full,

84:19
you will invariably ascend from stage to stage.

84:20
Then what is with them that they do not believe,

84:21
and when the Qur-an is recited to them they do not perform SAJDAH?

84:22
Rather, those who disbelieve belie.

84:23
But Allah knows best what they conceal.

84:24
Therefore give them the glad tidings of a painful chastisement.

84:25
But as to those who believe and do good,— for them is a reward never to be cut off.
