Surah Al-Insan / Ad-Dahr: The Man or The Long Life

Revealed at Makkah

With the name of Allah, most Gracious, most Rewarding

76:1
DID there not pass over man a while of a long time when he was not anything worth mentioning?

76:2
We have indeed created man out of a spermatozoon coupled, We are going to discipline him, so We have made him hearing, seeing.

76:3
Surely We have guided him in the Path; he is either grateful, or he be ungrateful.

76:4
We have indeed prepared for the Unbelievers chains and shackles and a burning Fire.

76:5
The virtuous will certainly drink of a cup— the temper of which is with camphor,—

76:6
a spring from which the bondsmen of Allah will drink, they will make it flow a great flowing.

76:7
They fulfill vows and fear the day, the calamity of which will be far-reaching.

76:8
And they feed food out of love for Him to the poor and the orphan and the captive,

76:9
“We feed you for the pleasure of Allah only; we do not desire from you recompense, nor also thanks.

76:10
“Surely we fear from our Rabb a frowning, distressful day.”

76:11
So Allah will save them from the evil of that day, and cause them to meet with cheerfulness and happiness;

76:12
and reward them, as they had persevered, with a Garden and silk,

76:13
reclining in it upon thrones, they will not see in it the sun, not also biting cold,

76:14
and close upon them will be the shades of it, and its clustered fruits will hang low,— within easy reach.

76:15
And round them will be made to pass cups of silver and bowls of crystal glass,—

76:16
crystal-clear of silver, which they will measure according to a measure.

76:17
And they will be given in it to drink a cup the temper of which is with Zingiber,—

76:18
a spring in it called Salsabil.

76:19
And youths of perpetual bloom will go round them; when you see them you will take them for pearls scattered about.

76:20
And whenever you will look there, you will see blissfulness and a great kingdom.
