Surah Al-Qalam: The Pen

Revealed at Makkah

With the name of Allah, most Gracious, most Rewarding

68:1
NUN! Consider the pen and what they write.

68:2
You are not, by the favor of your Rabb, a madman.

68:3
And surely for you there is indeed a never-exhausting reward.

68:4
And truly you are indeed upon an outstanding morals.

68:5
And you will soon see, and they will see—

68:6
which of you is the demented.

68:7
Surely your Rabb, He knows best who has gone astray from His way, and He knows best the guided ones.

68:8
Therefore do not yield to the belying ones.

68:9
They wish that you should slacken, so that they might slacken.

68:10
And do not yield to any oath-monger, a degraded,—

68:11
any backbiter— a walker with slander,

68:12
any forbidder of good, transgressor, sinner,

68:13
any insolent who is in addition illegitimate—

68:14
because he possesses wealth and children.

68:15
When Our Messages are recited to him, he says: “Fables of the ancients.”

68:16
We shall soon brand him on the nose.

68:17
Now We shall try them as We tried the owners of the garden, when they vowed that they would surely gather the crop of it by morning;

68:18
and they made no reservation.

68:19
So a visitation from your Rabb visited it while they were asleep.

68:20
Therefore in the morning it became as a harvested land.
