Surah At-Taubah/ Al-Bara'at: The Repentances/ The Immunity

Revealed at Madinah

9:21
Their Rabb gives them glad tidings of mercy from Him, and satisfaction, and Gardens in which there is for them a lasting bliss:

9:22
abiding in it all the time. Surely Allah, with Him is a great reward.

9:23
O you who believe, do not take your fathers and your brothers as patrons if they love unbelief above belief. And whoever among you makes them patrons, then such are themselves the wrongdoers.

9:24
You say: "If your fathers and your sons and your brethren, and your mates and your relations, and the property which you have earned, and trade whose decline you fear, and the residences which you love,— are dearer to you than Allah and His Rasul and the struggling in His path, then wait till Allah comes with His command." For Allah does not guide disobedient people.

9:25
Allah has already helped you in many battlefields, and on the day of Hunain when your large numbers made you wonder, but they did not avail you in any way, and the land, in spite of its vastness, became straitened to you, then you turned back retreating.

9:26
Then Allah sent down His Shekinah upon His Rasul and upon the Believers, and He sent armies which you did not see; and He punished those who disbelieve. And such is the reward of the Unbelievers.

9:27
Then Allah turns after this upon whom He pleases; for Allah is most Forgiving, most Rewarding.

9:28
O you who believe! the polytheists are indeed filthy, so they shall not approach the Sacred Masjid after this year of theirs; and if you fear poverty, then Allah will soon make you rich out of His grace if He please. Surely Allah is all-Knowing, most Wise.

9:29
Fight those who do not believe in Allah nor in the Future day, and who do not forbid what Allah and His Rasul have forbidden, and do not religionize the Religion of Truth,— from among those who have been given the scripture, until they pay the Jizya with own hands while they are under subjection.

9:30
And the Jews say: "Uzair is the son of Allah," while the Christians say: "The Masih is the son of Allah." These are their sayings with their mouths; they imitate the saying of those who disbelieved before. May Allah condemn them! How are they turned away?

9:31
They adopted their priests and their monks as lords besides Allah, and the Masih, son of Mar-yam; while they were ordered to worship none but One God. There is no deity but He. Glorified be He, away from what they associate!

9:32
They wish to extinguish the light of Allah with their mouths, and Allah will stop at nothing till He has completed His light, even though the Unbelievers dislike.

9:33
He it is Who has sent His Rasul with the Guidance and the Religion of Truth, that He may make it prevail over the religions— all of it, even though the polytheists dislike.

9:34
O you who believe, surely many of the priests and the monks do swallow the wealth of people wrongfully, and keep back from the way of Allah. And those who hoard gold and silver and do not spend it in Allah's way,— give them then the tidings of a painful punishment,—

9:35
on a day when it will be heated in the Fire of Gehenna, then with that their foreheads and their sides and their backs will be branded. "This is what you hoarded for yourselves; taste then what you used to hoard!"

9:36
Surely the number of months with Allah is twelve months— in the ordinance of Allah the day He created the heavens and the earth, of these four are sacred. This is the established creed. So do not transgress to yourselves in these, and fight the polytheists all together as they fight you all together. And know that Allah is indeed with the reverent.

9:37
The postponement is only an addition in unbelief, those who disbelieve are misguided by it; they allow it one year and forbid it another year, in order to make up the number which Allah has made sacred, so that they make lawful which Allah has made sacred. The evil of their deeds is made fair-seeming to them. And Allah does not guide the unbelieving people.

9:38
O you who believe! what reason have you, when it is told to you: "Set forth in the way of Allah"— you sink heavily towards the land? Are you satisfied with the life of this world than the Hereafter? But the enjoyment of the life of this world compared with the Hereafter is nothing but little.

9:39
If you do not set forth, He will chastise you with a painful chastisement, and He will exchange a people other than you, and you cannot harm Him in any way. For Allah is Possessor of power over all things.

9:40
If you do not help him then Allah has already helped him, when those who disbelieved turned him out, he being the second of the two; when they both were in the cave, behold! he said to his companion: "Do not grieve, surely Allah is with us." So Allah sent down His Shekinah upon him, and strengthened him with an army which you did not see, and He made lowest the word of those who disbelieved. And the word of Allah— that is supreme. And Allah is Exalted in might, most Wise.
